INTRODUCTION TO THE EXHIBITION
This visual chronicle of 21 paintings grew out of a two-week journey through the Sacred Valley and to Lake Titicaca in June of 2024, guided by an indigenous shaman and his family.
After I returned enriched and transformed by the experience, I began to paint my encounters between the land and its spirit; the teachings and blessings I received took form.
The series took 22 months to complete. In this online presentation I am sharing my experience and invite you to witness and appreciate this mystical journey with me.
Artist’s statement
This body of work marks a subtle yet meaningful departure from my usual painting practice. While my authentic technique–defined by stipples, layered brush marks, and a physical build-up of surface–remains present, I allowed it to transform in response to Peru itself. The landscapes, ceremonies, and spiritual encounters of the Sacred Valley and Lake Titicaca asked for a different kind of listening, one that moved fluidly between abstraction and representation. Each painting holds both: recognizable forms emerging from intuitive gestures, and abstract passages that speak to sensation, memory, and the unseen.
