Vision Statement
I wanted to portray an image that is normal to me but may not be for the rest of the world. As a black woman, having my hair out and natural is something that is comfortable for me, but not shown in mainstream pictures of black women. This painting depicts a typical morning for me, relaxed, hair out, reading a book and enjoying my morning coffee. I want to normalize more images like this one and painting myself in a real and honest moment is my way to begin to do that.
