About the Artist

Sandra Lee Scott’s Artist’s statement
Adventurous, Eclectic, Innovative — These three words describe my approach to art, and to life! I express my passion for creativity through pastel painting, cold wax and oil, mixed media projects, and photography. I want to do it all. With my mixed media pieces, I relish creating works with meaningful social or environmental messages and pieces that are strictly abstract, with no meaning at all.

Artist’s Bio
Sandra Lee has been highly interested in the arts since the age of sixteen and has the equivalent of a college minor in art. She pursued her interest in painting and mixed media on a limited basis for many years while working in the mental health field and was a serious amateur photographer for several decades. Now a retired Marriage and Family Therapist, Sandee has relished the opportunity to explore pastel painting, mixed media projects, acrylic and oil painting and more, for the past 10 years. She has taken classes and workshops with Anita Stoll (pastelist), Jerome Grimmer, Joan Fullerton, LaVone Sterling (pastelist) and Barbara Jaenicke among others, and is an enthusiastic art gallery visitor.
As a member and former longtime board member of Yosemite Sierra Artists (YSA, formerly known as YWA), she has participated in YSA’s Photography group, Digital Art Group, and Plein Air outings. Over the past ten years her artwork and photography have received recognition and won awards in shows sponsored by Yosemite Western Artists, Alliance of California Artists, Madera County Arts Council, Sierra Artists Gallery and the Clovis Art Guild. Her work was accepted in the Yosemite Renaissance 34 and 35 exhibits. Sandra Lee has been a participating artist in Sierra Art Trails since 2014.
Sandee was a member of Timberline Gallery in Oakhurst, California for a number of years until its closing in December of 2019. She is a member of the Madera County Arts Council where her work is frequently exhibited at Circle Gallery. Her artwork can also be seen periodically at other venues such as United Security Bank and the Yosemite Visitors Center, both in Oakhurst.
In addition to her visual art endeavors, Sandee is the author of two books — Bloomin’ Boomers and the novel Reflections of Evil.
Sandee considers herself fortunate to live on the Fresno River in the Sierra foothills with Yosemite National Park as her “backyard.” The inspiring environment provides limitless subjects to explore creatively. With her mixed media pieces, she enjoys creating works with a meaningful environmental or social message and pieces that are strictly abstract. Describing her approach to art as adventurous, eclectic and innovative, she expresses herself in a rather spontaneous style and takes pleasure in sharing her unique interpretations and vision with others.
