A trip to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and a view I have glanced at countless times.
On this day the scene jumped out on noticing school girls on the steps in the foreground. A classic motif from antiquity; the knight on horseback, a maiden and a “castle” in the distance set among woodland. The contrast with the 2020 school girls bringing into sharp focus the empowerment of modern women. The carefree, young, educated young girls free to choose their own destiny.
