Visions of Self is an annual show of work from female artists across the world. It’s hosted by the Women’s Voices, Women’s Vision group of Yosemite Sierra Artists. In our second year, we’re featuring over 100 artists from 14 countries, with work including the subjects of self-portraiture, environment, emotions, and state of being.
Senior Self Portrait
I wanted to illustrate the concept of being a High School senior during a pandemic. I included the things that would have been and what was with a little bit of artistic liberty. I included the ring, medals and stole that I wore when we did actually graduate on June 5th. I added the gas mask to represent the pandemic. I did include the rented robe with the school seal that we would traditionally have worn, but due to the pandemic, were unable to use this year. This is a mixed media piece including colored pencil, pen, white gel pen, and Brusho Crystal Color. I purposely painted the background with the crystals to be chaotic to represent the world at the time of my high school graduation.
