Visions of Self is an annual show of work from female artists across the world. It’s hosted by the Women’s Voices, Women’s Vision group of Yosemite Sierra Artists. In our second year, we’re featuring over 100 artists from 14 countries, with work including the subjects of self-portraiture, environment, emotions, and state of being.

Being a clumsy artist with a type-A personality is a confusing combination that often gets me in trouble. As an overachiever and perfectionist, I obsess over details and have a naive hope that I can make everything go perfectly. This can be seen best in my notebooks. I make regimented, repetitive, organized lists assuming I have complete control. This of course is never true and I instead chronically spill coffee, burn things, and splatter the paint on new white clothes. This piece is about the contradiction between being an artist who makes mistakes and the robot I try to be.
