Visions of Self is an annual show of work from female artists across the world. It’s hosted by the Women’s Voices, Women’s Vision group of Yosemite Sierra Artists. In our second year, we’re featuring over 100 artists from 14 countries, with work including the subjects of self-portraiture, environment, emotions, and state of being.

Fragile Sanity

My art is conceived from agitation caused by strong feelings that propel me to dissect and document my emotions. This self-discovery triggers a ritual-like process that morphs my unrest into the vision I’m trying to unravel. I take a series of photographs, illuminating my perceived mental and physical vulnerabilities. I watch as my face transforms into something else gradually with each picture and figure out which version says what I didn’t know was there.
The use of color, texture and light conveys emotions. I’m drawn to creating tension between what appears on the outside versus the turmoil that rages within. Rather than trying to explain a moment I show it by capturing the most revealing part.
