Visions of Self is an annual show of work from female artists across the world. It’s hosted by the Women’s Voices, Women’s Vision group of Yosemite Sierra Artists. In our second year, we’re featuring over 100 artists from 14 countries, with work including the subjects of self-portraiture, environment, emotions, and state of being.
Timber 2020: Bass Lake, Courtney Fire log deck, masked
My move to Virginia ended my ten year photographic “Timber” project in the Central Sierra, but the forest will continue to change behind me. I’ve witnessed a dramatic decade of rain, snow, wind, drought, disease, fire and a forest succession process that started eons ago.
At Bass Lake, this abandoned log deck where I sit, was meant for a timber salvage sale from the 2014 Courtney Fire. Now these aged, sun bleached, silvery logs are my backdrop. The mask around my neck shows the constant theme of the project as being a current event.
Closing this chapter of my life here and starting a new one in Virginia leads me to reflect on the tremendous gratitude I feel for the years I lived in Oakhurst.
