Visions of Self is an annual show of work from female artists across the world. It’s hosted by the Women’s Voices, Women’s Vision group of Yosemite Sierra Artists. In our second year, we’re featuring over 100 artists from 14 countries, with work including the subjects of self-portraiture, environment, emotions, and state of being.
Drifting Into Free
Each art piece begins as a photograph taken with my Leica D-Lux camera and further touched with artistic expression.
Ekphrastic poetry engages the poet to explore art. The transformation of visual into literary began as a description of art forms. “The term ekphrastic originates from a Greek expression for description. The earliest ekphrastic poems were vivid accounts of real or imagined scenes. Later poets moved beyond description to reflect on deeper meanings. Today, the word ekphrastic can refer to any literary response to a non-literary work.”
the other day the clouds burst open.
my hair turned into braided raindrops.
hair strands sharing cloud water.
oval reflective drops of light in a brown forest.
an earthly fullness around me.
as early morning awakened
white against white.
the clouds smiling.
drifting into free.
