Silent

Johanna Torbenson
Excelsior, MN United States
Painting: Acrylic

The painting “Silent” represents experiences and feelings I can’t talk about or share because I am compelled to say nothing. The woman’s lips are pierced shut because she cannot speak. Her arm is changing into something alien and growing scales. She wears her big heart outside and exposed, where it is vulnerable. She has the feeling of being underwater, and she is nourishing a flower-like growth. The egg-like forms represent infinite potential. The painting is almost entirely red, symbolizing hidden and visceral feelings.
